J.T. Hill

J.T. Hill passed away peacefully in his sleep, August 21, 2021, at the age of 85. He was born on a farm in Lipscomb County, September 17, 1935, the fourth son of Tom and Lizzie Hill. J.T. graduated from Canadian High School in 1953, and what was West Texas State College in 1958, with a degree in physical education.

After serving in the Army from 1958 to 1960, he began his career coaching and teaching in Vega, followed by Wheeler, White Deer and Sonora, Texas.
He was the owner of Hill's Jewelry, formerly Ruth Shurley Jewelry. He married Donna Haliburton on November 3, 1962.

J.T. loved life. His passions were spending time with family and friends, golfing, fishing, dancing, and playing cards and domino games.
He was a member of the Sonora Methodist Church, having served as as ad council chair. He was a former member of Sonora Lions Club, serving as Deputy District Governor, and a member of the Sonora Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Sonora, Daughters Kari and husband J.R. Dunn, and Kristi Hill- Herrera. Grandchildren are J. Tanner Dunn and wife Jordan, and Meredith Hill- Herrera. J.T. was recently blessed with great-grandson J. Brazos Dunn.

He is also survived by brother Gordon "Tex" Hill and wife Millie. Sister-in-laws Zoe Ann Hill, Sherry McCavit and husband Jack. Brother-in-law John Haliburton and wife Cindi, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by son, James Timothy Hill, parents Tom and Lizzie Hill, brothers Marion Hill and Warren Hill and wife Pat.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2:00p.m. at Sonora Methodist Church.

Interment of ashes will be in the Oldham County Cemetery in Vega, TX. , Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 4:00p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Sonora Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
