Jimmie Gaile Barrow Cade

Jimmie Gaile Barrow Cade was born in Hico, Texas in 1931 and at the age of five moved to Alpine with her family. After high school graduation she continued her education and graduated from Sul Ross State University. During her school years she was an outstanding volleyball player.


On December 21, 1951 Gaile married Marshall Clay Cade. They started their married life in Alpine before living in Seminole for a short time. They returned to Alpine for a while before moving to Marathon and finally Sonora in 1963.


She held many various jobs over the years including Car Parts Depot, Forchheimers Department Store, KVLF radio station in Alpine as a secretary and disc jockey, and International Boundry & Water Commission.


The final 34 years in the workplace was as a beloved teacher. She guided many teens through typing, short hand, bookkeeping, English, Business Law, Business English and secretarial computers.


Gaile taught the first class using electric typewriters In the Sonora school system and the last class with electric typewriters as computers were being introduced. She coached UIL typing and traveled every Saturday from January through May to a contest somewhere.


Gaile was also very active and a faithful member of her beloved First United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir until 2012; served many years teaching Sunday school; held every office of the UMW; was on the church board and was the president of the Pastor/Parish Relations committee, too. Gaile was also active in the Sonora Woman’s Club and served on the library board.


Our Mimi loved reading, jigsaw puzzles and games of all kinds. She had been a part of the cloggers, water aerobics group, various bridge clubs, and Fling Ding & Tarentella dance clubs. She loved watching her boys and grandchildren compete in rodeo, football, tennis or other activities. Decorating and keeping her home immaculate was another one of her attributes that will be missed.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Clay Gerdine Barrow and her beloved grandson Tan Mansfield Cade.


She is survived by her husband Clay and sister Selette Suratt, sons Jimmy and Larry Cade and their spouses and beloved grandchildren who loved their “Mimi”: Mackenzy, Call and Creed. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Cohen, Tindyl, Willow, Olive, Rose and Cash.


Graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 30, at the Sonora Cemetery at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sonora Woman’s Club Library or the First United Methodist Church.
