Maria M. Ortiz went to be with our Heavenly Father on August 22nd, 2020. She was 81 years old.
She was born to parents Aurelio and Agripina Melendez on May 16, 1939 in Dawson County, TX.
Maria is reunited in heaven with her loving husband, Maclovio Ortiz, her sisters, Manuela Acre, Anita Leal and Luz Pena, and her brothers, Onesimo, Miguel, Arnulfo, and Fidencio Melendez.
She is survived by her four children, Nancy Rae Ortiz, Norbert Ortiz, Nelda McCane, and Maclovio Ortiz, Jr. along with her sister and best friend, Ofelia Lucio, brother David Melendez, and sisters, Carlota Rodriguez and Rafaela Lozano.
She was known affectionately as “Wella” among her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In her spare time, she enjoyed making memories with her family, taking long walks, keeping up with politics and sports, and being involved with her church. Maria was the matriarch of her family. She was an ever-present source of strength, wisdom, and love. She will forever be in our hearts.
Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 26th, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Lamesa, TX, with Father John Rathinam officiating. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2020 and Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Branon Funeral Home.
