Mark Lamar Evans of Sonora, Texas went to be with the Lord and was reunited with loved ones on April 2, 2018. Mark Lamar was born to Billy and Betty Evans on December 9, 1959 in San Angelo, Texas and he graduated from Central High School and Sul Ross State University.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Fort Mc Kavett Cemetery. Visitation for all will be at Love Funeral home in Sonora, Texas from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Mark Lamar Evans loved by example, and his life was centered on the two children he shared with his wife, Karen Ann Evans, and all the many children he taught and coached during his thirty-year career at the school districts of Olfen, Kermit, Menard, Garden City, Big Lake, and Sonora.

The legacy of Mark Lamar’s kind spirit, passion for sports, and zest for life will live on through them. He retired from teaching and coaching in 2015, but, after a year of retirement, he missed the connection he had with his students. In August 2016, Mark Lamar returned to the classroom at Junction High School. He helped many excel in the classroom and in athletics. Although he always loved coaching football, Mark Lamar also coached golf, tennis, track and basketball. He loved his students, and it was apparent they loved him by their eagerness to work their hardest and always give their best.

Through the years Mark Lamar Evans enjoyed fishing, ranching and family vacations. He was a lifelong member of Cedar Hill Church of Christ where, he would occasionally lead the singing and preach a sermon or two. He cherished his many friendships, especially with his best friend Phil Herd, and was a man that always had your best interest at heart, even that love seemed a little tough. He could talk easily with anyone and made everyone feel like family. His story telling would make you laugh and he was admired for his acts of chivalry, as he always reached out a helping hand. Because of Mark Lamar Evans, we will continue to laugh a little harder, cry a little less and smile more often. God gave him to us as an angel of strength and love to guide our paths, and he has now returned to his heavenly home where all angels belong.

Mark Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Betty Evans, and his grandparents, Bill and Damon Evans and Mattie and Jack Sykes, and several great aunts and uncles.
