On February 23, 2018, Cecilia “Cissy” Lily Young Nevill passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas.

Cissy was born on February 11, 1945, in Shoemaker, California and graduated from Sonora High School.

She went to Texas Christian University in Fort Worth where she became a Kappa Kappa Gamma and received her baccalaureate in Home Economics.

In 1967, she married her high school sweetheart, Bob Nevill (former spouse), and completed her Masters in Special Education at Angelo State University in San Angelo.

Cissy taught special needs students for over 20 years at Sherman High School and at the Brownwood State School in Brownwood.

Then, she went on to work as a nutritionist at Women, Infants & Children in Abilene.

She retired in 2010 and moved part time to Ruidoso, New Mexico. Later, she moved to San Angelo next to her sister, Jetty. Then finally, to Ledgestone Senior Living just outside of Austin.

Cissy truly loved marching to the beat of her own drummer.

She had a strong sense of humor, independence, and was always as generous as the last slot machine she played that day.

It could well be said of Cissy Nevill that she often cared when no one else did.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lois Young, 2006, and Wesley Young, 1970.

She is survived by her sisters, Jetty Davis and Yvonne Mizelle, her daughter Heather Slone Nevill and wife Lisa Donato, her son Thomas Wesley Nevill and wife Maddy Nguyen Nevill, two grandchildren, Mason and Parker Nevill and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 404 E. Poplar St., in Sonora.

Condolences and flowers may be sent to St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sonora as well.
