Mrs. Mary Lynn Brooks Gosney, 91, of Junction, TX, passed away on July 5, 2021 at the Menard Manor from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

She was born January 31, 1930, in Chillicothe, TX, to Rester and Ava Helveston Brooks. As the only girl of five children, Mary Lynn grew up tough. She would be in charge of cleaning every weekend and had to threaten her brothers to clean up. She would throw their belongings out onto the lawn if they didn’t clean up, knowing she’d pay for it later. She graduated from Hanley High School, where she was valedictorian and a cheerleader, and then received her Education degree from Howard Payne College.

She married Billy Conrad Gosney August 20, 1949, and so began a life full of love, adventures, dancing, and many careers. They moved often, spending time in Ballinger, TX, Tomball, TX, Farmington, NM, and Cortez, Colorado.
Settling in Sonora, TX in 1962, Mary Lynn taught elementary school.
After teaching for 26 years, Bill and Mary Lynn opened Gosney’s Department Store and The Corral Children’s store in Sonora.
They retired to their ranch in the late 1980’s. Retirement was short-lived, as they then opened Carquest in Junction, TX, operating it through the 1990’s.
Their second retirement to the ranch finally stuck, and they lived outside of Junction near Ft. McKavett.

Mary Lynn was known as being smart, kind, and a little feisty. She kept the books for each business and made sure all the suppliers did the right thing.
She gave excellent hugs, was an amazing “Teach” to all, and could straighten people out with a sharp word. She would entertain her grandchildren with driving fast down the dip in Sonora, painting rocks, and giving excellent life lessons. She was always ready to listen, gave great advice, quick to forgive, play a card game, and smile her sweet grin.

She is survived by her loving husband of 71+ years, Billy C. Gosney. She is also survived by her son Dr. Michael C. Gosney and daughter-in-law Donna Sheppard Gosney of Muscle Shoals, AL, and Junction, TX. She is survived by her grandchildren – Kimberlee Gosney of Junction, Dan and Alyssa Gosney Rieber of Fredericksburg, and Matthew Gosney of Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by her great-granddaughters – Emma and Samantha Rieber of Fredericksburg and Olivia Gosney of Birmingham, AL – her beloved in-laws, many nieces and nephews, friends, and extended family who loved their “Aunt Mary”. She is predeceased by her parents and brothers – RA (Betty Ann), Otis (Clara), Veston, and Eldon.

The family would like to thank Anna Sauceda, Menard Manor, and Hospice of San Angelo and their wonderful staff for their compassion and care.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests donations to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kimble Funeral Home. (325) 446-3076
