Sutton County recorded its fifth death and 17 new COVID-19 cases this week with 10 of those being tallied by the San Angelo Health Department and the remaining seven reported by Lillian M. Hudspeth Hospital in Sonora.

The death was recorded by the State of Texas on November 30th, but didn’t appear on the state’s website until Tuesday, December 8th.

LMH Hospital, the San Angelo Health Department, Schleicher County Medical Center and the Texas National Guard, among others, have reported a total of 295 positive cases within the county.

County Judge Steve Smith reports that active cases have declined sharply in the past week. The number is down from 76 on Tuesday of last week to 51 this Wednesday. But, the total remains well above the level that requires the wearing of masks or face coverings, as provided by Governor Greg Abbott’s emergency order.

The order requires individuals inside a public building or place of business to wear a face covering. The covering is also required outdoors when it is not possible for a person to maintain a six-foot distance from other individuals.
