The Sonora Broncos varsity baseball team claimed a 12-8 victory over the Stanton Buffaloes in an intense showdown played on Friday, April 2, 2021

“I’m very proud of how the TEAM responded from Tuesday’s outing and how they fought back. It shows their character and perseverance! I’d like to thank Bronco Nation for coming out and being vocal!”

The game began with Stanton getting on the board in the first inning and scoring a run on a stolen base. But, the Broncos pulled away for good with a 10-run outburst in the fourth inning.

Jaime Buitron belted an inside the park home run for the Broncos. Later, while on the mound, Buitron took a line drive to the head. He was literally knocked down, but got back up, and like a warrior finished the game.

Ivan Fuentes doubled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs for the Broncos. Jay Morales stood in at the plate while a run scored on a steal of home. Morales then singled.

It was deja vu all over again when Brady Velvecka came to the plate, as a run scored on a steal of home before Velvecka reached on a single.

The Broncos also scored on a stolen base during Jaime Buitron’s at bat, just before he homered, driving in three. Alex Renteria doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring a run, and the team scored on a stolen base during Jacob Martinez’s at bat, which he followed up with a single of his own.

Carson was on the hill for Stanton. He went three and a third innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits, striking out three and walking one. Hinojosa threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Broncos collected 15 hits in the outing with Jonah Galvan, Alex Renteria, Jay Morales, Ivan Fuentes, and Jaime Buitron each tallying multiple hits. Galvan went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Broncos in hits.
The victory leaves the Broncos in third place in district play with a record of 1-2.
The Broncos will continue with a game on the road April 8th in Coahoma.
