On Thursday, January 29, 2021 Don Gibson, Interim Superintendent of SISD named Coach Eddie Favila as the Interim Athletic Director. This change is effective immediately.

Coach Favila will handle all responsibilities associated with the title as well as ensuring that the program requirements with the UIL are fulfilled until a permanent athletic director is selected.

Coach Favila is a familiar face at Sonora High School. He has been serving the students of SHS for 25 years.

Favila is the Head Track Coach and Assistant Football Coach. Favila is also a teacher. He teaches the credit recovery program and dual credit courses.
Favila has been coaching for 35 years. Prior to coaching in Sonora he coached at Jourdantown ISD for 4 years, Aubrey ISD for 2 years and Hondo ISD for 4 years. He has coached football, track and basketball throughout his career.

Coach Favila and his wife Tammy have two daughters Alyssa and Kelsey, both graduates of Sonora High School.

The Favila’s are members of St. Ann Catholic Church where Coach Favila also serves a member of the Parish Council.

Gibson reported that there have been several applicants for the position and he has received multiple phone calls seeking information regarding the position.

The Broncos Athletic Department is in full swing entering a busy spring season filled with baseball, powerlifting, tennis, golf, track, softball and finishing up the basketball season. We can expect that Coach Favila will be busy corrdinating all of these sports.

The school board will meet on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in the board room at the Vocational Building.

It is expected that the board members will work with Mr. Gibson to determine a plan for filling this position.
