The Devil’s River News has learned that three write-in candidates have filed for three separate offices ahead of Monday’s filing deadline.

County Clerk Pam Thorp said that Art Fuentes is a write-in candidate for county judge. That puts him running against current Justice of the Peace Jody Harris in the race to replace Rachel Duran.

Meanwhile, Melissa Fuentes has filed for Justice of the Peace and Melissa Solis filed for Sutton County Treasurer, both as write-in candidates.
County Judge Rachel Duran explains that, although the filing came ahead of the deadline, the candidates have to be certified before they are officially considered as candidates.

Texas law allows write-in candidates to file for an office provided they obtain the appropriate number of signatures or by paying a filing fee. In either case, the candidates file with the county judge.

Melissa Fuentes filed to run against Tammy Liska for the Justice of the Peace position while Melissa Solis filed to oppose Janell Martin for Sutton County Treasurer.

The Devil’s River News will update this story as the certification process moves forward.
