Members of the Sutton County Hospital District Board of Directors met behind closed doors to discuss candidates for the position of SCHD administrator/CEO during a special meeting Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the LMH Wellness Center.

Of the sixty applications received as stated by Lance Keilers, Consultant and president of Connected Healthcare Consulting, LLC, three people were invited to Sonora for an opportunity to interview in person as well as interact with hospital staff and selected members of the community for a day.

Monica Sheldan of Washington State, Tim Ford of Vermont and Andy Kolb of Aspermont, Texas spent a day discussing their interest in becoming the administrator/CEO for the SCHD while also gathering information about the hospital and the community on separate occasions during the month of February.

Board member and search committee member Edward Earwood said he thinks the process to find a permanent administrator went “extremely well.”
“It was a good process and I am happy that the board worked together,” Earwood said.

Following the more than one hour long secret session, the board unanimously approved a motion by Board Member Noemi Samaniego and second by Board member Mary Humphrey authorize the Board Chairman, Mark Edwards, on behalf of the SCHD, to negotiate a contract of employment with a candidate, referred to as “candidate C”, for the SCHD Administrator/CEO position.

The motion also included that any such contract to be submitted to the full board for approval prior to the contract becoming effective.

Earwood said while the time line to approve and hire an administrator is dependent upon the contract negotiation process, he hopes the board will be able to hire their choice candidate soon.

Once the details are worked out, the board will hold a special meeting to approve the contract and hire the individual, possibly by the end of the month, Earwood added.

In addition to their discussion and action on hiring a permanent administrator, board members also unanimously approved a DSHS Uncompensated Trauma Care application before closing Tuesday’s special meeting.

Of the four visitors present for the meeting, no one commented.

Board President Mark Edwards resided over the meeting. Board Members Edward Earwood, Don Longoria, John Henry Strauch, Mary Humphrey, Noemi Samaniego and Adelita Alvarez were present.

The regular monthly meeting of the Sutton County Hospital Board of Directors is set for Monday, March 25, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. at the LMH Wellness Center.
