U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Sarah Lira

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Sarah Lira from Sonora visited the Pentagon Wednesday, May 8, 2019, where she, Brig. Gen. Scott Jackson and fellow soldiers from the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade spoke with reporters about their nine month deployment to Afghanistan, ending in November 2018.

During her tour in Afghanistan, Lire handled demilitarization of ammunition and explosives sites and caches with corps level and other echelons.

Lira is the granddaughter of Cleofas and Maria Quiroz of Sonora.

She joined the army in 2008 and has completed three tours of duty while serving in the Army. Lira is the mother of two children, Nevaeh and Fabian Lira, and she is currently stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia.
