Ben Pool unseated incumbent Mark Edwards in the race for the Single Member District #2 seat on the Sutton County Hospital District board of trustees on Saturday, May 7, 2022 by a margin of 161-120. Manuel Tobias received six votes in the contest.

A total of 287 votes were cast in the election with the bulk of those coming in before election day, either during the early voting period, or by absentee ballot. Only 57 ballots were cast during the 12-hour long voting period on Saturday.
Pool received 133 of his votes during the early voting period. Seven votes came in on absentee ballots, with only 21 of the votes being cast on election day.

Edwards received 82 votes during the early voting period with four votes coming in on absentee ballots and 34 votes on election day. Tobias received four votes in early voting and two on election day.

Pool has a degree in business administration. He and his family have been Sonora residents for over 40 years including four children who graduated from Sonora High School. 

Pool is an established retail business owner involved in finances, long rang planning and marketing. He is a founding and active board member of the Sutton County Health Foundation and the Sutton County Food Pantry & Resource Center. 

His goals as Precinct 2 representative is to maintain a positive relationship with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), oversee the hospital’s financial well being to ensure the hospital is providing quality care, and to stay educated in the healthcare industry.
