The Sonora Broncos will host the Christoval Cougars this Friday night, September 11, in Bronco Stadium for their homecoming game.

Traditional homecoming activities began on Tuesday when students returned to class after an extended weekend in observance of Labor Day. Spirit week activities include Tacky Tourist day, Dynamic Duo day, Superhero day and School Spirit day.

All Sonora ISD campuses will have early release at 12:00 p.m. on Friday in preparation of the parade, pep rally and football game.

The homecoming parade begins at 2:00 p.m., in front of the Elementary School, on Concho Street.

Participants and floats will make their way through downtown to the Courthouse on Main and Water Streets. A pep rally will follow to bolster spirits ahead of Friday game.

Crowning ceremonies will take place at half-time with the announcement of queen candidates and class duchesses. One special senior candidate will be crowned Homecoming Queen during the half time events. Fans are asked to remain in the stands during the half-time festivities.

Queen candidates and duchesses were chosen by their peers last week. Votes were cast this week on their choice for the 2020 Homecoming Queen.
Senior queen candidates include: Rashel De Luna, Jaci Dutton, Skylar Harris and Miranda Renteria.

Rashel is the daughter of Jose and Maricella De Luna. Her extra-curricular activities include cheerleading, tennis, FFA, NHS, UIL, student council and St. Ann Catholic Church youth group. Rashel enjoys spending time with her family, shopping, hanging out with friends, watching Netflix and eating ice cream. Her most memorable time at Sonora High School is when she ran into the gate at the tennis courts, Ag trips with friends and Mr. Flanagan and being named to the homecoming court three times. Rashel is being escorted by her father Jose De Luna, a 1998 graduate of Sonora High School.

Jaci is the daughter of Jock and Jimalee Dutton. Her extra- curricular activities include FFA, volleyball, cheerleading, NHS, Miss Sutton County, UIL, tennis, 4-H, and stock show. Jaci enjoys traveling, competing in FFA activities and spending time with friends and family. Her most memorable time at Sonora High School is taking part in the state chapter conducting with her team this past December. Jaci is being escorted by her father Jock Dutton.

Skylar is the daughter of Kane and Tiffany Harris. Her extra- curricular activities include volleyball, basketball, track UIL and NHS. Skylar enjoys competing in team and individual sports, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Her most memorable time at Sonora High School is when she won a medal at the regional track meet in 2019 along with her sister Camille. Skylar is being escorted by her father Kane Harris.

Miranda is the daughter of Tony and Estela Renteria. Her extra- curricular activities include cheerleading, FFA, Tennis, baseball manager and St. Ann Catholic Church youth group. Miranda enjoys spending time with family and friends, baking, shopping and traveling. Her most memorable times at Sonora High School are the unforgettable FFA trips with Mr. Flanagan and friends. Miranda is being escorted by her father Tony Renteria.

Class Duchesses: Junior class, Carson Cahill, Sophomore class, Monstserrat (Montse) De La Fuenta, and Freshman class, Arabella (Bella) San Miguel.

Carson is the daughter of Chacho and Dawn Cahill. Her extra- curricular activities include cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, track and showing sheep. Carson enjoys hanging out with friends, baking traveling and spending time with her family. Carson’s most memorable time at Sonora High School is when she ran the sprint relay with her sister, Lane, at the regional meet during her freshman year. Carson is being escorted by her father Chacho Cahill, a 1990 graduate of Sonora High School.

Montse is the daughter of Noe Andres and Gladys De La Fuente. Her extra- curricular activities include cheerleading, volleyball, cross country, basketball, softball and tennis. Montse enjoys playing tennis with family and friends, and loves to sing and dance. Her most memorable moment at Sonora High School is when she qualified for state team tennis. Montse is being escorted by her father Noe Andres De La Fuente.

Bella is the daughter of Edward and Adrianne San Miguel. Her extra-curricular activities include cross country, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, softball, track and golf. Bella enjoys running, cooking and spending time with her family, especially her niece Zay and nephew Kru. She will always remember having to wear a mask on the first day of school. Bella is being escorted by her dad, Edward San Miguel, a 1991 graduate of Sonora High School.

The Broncos hold a 0-2 record this season. The Cougars are 1-1 on the season.

Both teams will be looking to improve their record with a win this Friday.

Kick off is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday evening in Bronco Stadium. Everyone is encouraged to come out and show their support for the Broncos.
