The Sonora Middle School tennis teams demonstrated determination and talent on the court Saturday, May 5, 2018, while competing in the District Tennis Tournament at Reagan County.

Sonora was one of four area teams including Reagan County, Wall and Ballinger vying for a top place finish in the tourney.

Ranking highest with a first place finish was the eighth grade mixed doubles team of Joselyn Rodriguez and Christoval Lira.

The mixed doubles team of Jacque Torres and Ulices Ozuna placed fourth among the competition.

Likewise, Montse De La Fuente was awarded first place in the seventh grade girls’ singles.

In addition, Mario De La Fuente and Ivan Fuentes beat Sean Mungia and Fernando Gonzalez in the finals to take first and second in the eighth grade boys’ doubles.

Close behind, eighth graders Abby Bennie and Alex Cardenas were awarded second place in the girls’ doubles.

Sonora’s seventh and eighth grade boys finished tournament runner-up in both divisions while competing against Reagan County.

In the seventh grade boys’ singles, Gage Owen beat Darian Reyes in the third place match and Ignacio Coronado and Grayson Baird finished in fourth.

The mixed doubles team of Tanner Flanagan and Alma Hernandez also finished fourth in the tourney.

Eighth grader Lane Taylor earned a fourth place finish in the boys’ singles to wrap up the day.

All of the players deserve applause for their hard work.
