The Broncos Head Football Coach and Athletic Director, Kevin Sherrill is leaving Sonora. Coach Sherrill has accepted the athletic director position with Class 4 A Division II Vernon.

Interim Superintendent Don Gibson confirmed Tuesday that Coach Sherrill has resigned, his last day will be February 8, 2021.

Sherrill was hired as the Broncos Head Football Coach and Athletic Director on Friday, May 3, 2019. He came to Sonora from 2A Division-II Ralls.

He led the Broncos for two seasons, each season ending in the first round of the playoffs.

His overall record with the Broncos includes 8-14 in pre-district play and 5-5 in district.

The Broncos have secured five State Championships, with the last title earned in 2000 under the direction of Head Coach Jason Herring.

The 2020 Broncos played Alpine for the bi-district championship, but ended the season with a 30-32 loss.

Mr. Gibson explained that an interim athletic director will be named soon to handle paperwork and business until a new athletic director is hired.

The school district is accepting applications for this position. More information will be available following the next school board meeting on February 10, 2021 at 5:30 in the Board Room.
