A crowd of people gathered at the Sutton County Park and Pavilion Saturday, October 5, 2019, for the 8th Annual Dry Devils River Music Flood in Sonora.

The event, hosted by the Sonora Chamber of Commerce, featured top specialty cooks from around the area, vendors offering a variety of goods and a concert featuring music performers including Triston Marez, Truck Stop Gamblers, Robert Ray, Red Shahan, Jon Wolfe , Craig Morgan and , A.J. Castillo.

This year’s event offered free admission but required alcohol to be purchased inside the gate.

Chamber Executive Director Donna Garrett said she couldn’t have been more pleased with the success of this year’s event.

“It was a great event,” Garrett said. “We had about 1000 in attendance. Everyone had a great time with all the great band selections.”

For the past eight years, Garrett, along with the members of the Sonora Chamber of Commerce board of directors, have worked consistently to make the event possible.

Funding for the event comes from grant money, donations, and sponsorships by business and individuals.

Beginning Saturday morning, cook teams prepared a variety of foods to be considered by judges in a top choice competition.

This year the Smoking Pistoleros of Eldorado took home the Showmanship and Reserve Grand Championship award.

Gibby’s Bar and Grill of Eldorado was awarded the Grand Championship.

Jackpot awards were presented to Smoking Pistoleros for Beans, Bloody Mary and Potato Salad.

Lil Rae’s BBQ of Sonora received the Jackpot Award for Margaritas.

Chicken Quarters: Gibby’s Bar and Grill of Eldorado, 1st, Team Zapata of Bangs, 2nd and Trump Train of San Angelo, 3rd.

Brisket: Gibby’s Bar and Grill, 1st, Smoking Pistoleros, 2nd, Trump Train, 3rd,

Pork Ribs: Smoking Pistoleros, 1st, Gibby’s Bar and Grill, 2nd and Lil Rae’s BBQ of Sonora, 3rd.
