The Sonora City Council met on Monday, April 19, 2021at 6:00 p.m.

The meeting was opened with prayer by Mayor Juanita Gomez.

Art Fuentes, City Manager then updated the city council on the status of the airport. He reported that he finalizing the light upgrade which will include adding solar lighting for efficiency and cost effectiveness. Later in the meeting Fuentes also reported to the council that there is a grant available to aid with costs for updating the fuel system at the airport. The council approved Fuentes to begin working on obtaining the grant.

Charlotte McElwain updated the council on the status of the water systems, reporting damage to parts of the water equipment from the recent power outages. McElwain presented the council with an estimate for repairs.

The senior citizen center was another hot topic for the city council; the council approved Fuentes to begin assembling a committee to look at options for repairing the existing center or possibilities for a new senior center.

The city council approved a Sonora Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) grant to Smith Sisters owner, Carla Smith for $5,700.00 to expand her boutique to offer on-line sales which will increase sales tax revenue and add opportunities for future employment.

After hearing reports from all departments, the city council adjourned. The next meeting will be on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall.
