Monday, April 12, 2021 the Lillian M. Hudspeth Board of Trustees met for a regularly scheduled meeting.

After handling several regular agenda items, the board entered into executive session.

Upon opening the meeting back up to the public, the board voted unanimously to approve the contract to hire Steve Smith for the position of CEO.

Smith is currently serving as the Sutton County Judge. Smith has a lengthy background in law, he was the elected District Attorney in San Angelo for 16 years, he was then the Assistant District Attorney to District Attorney English from 2005 until November 7, 2014 when he was elected Sutton County Judge.

He has served as County Judge for the past six and a half years.

Smith and his wife, Beverly moved to Sutton County in June of 2005.

Smith explained that he has gained a lot of experience in regard to the medical field from his wife who is a Registered Nurse.

They have 5 children and 7 grandchildren with one on the way.

“I’m excited about this new opportunity” Smith explained when discussing that he will be taking the helm at the hospital beginning on June 7, 2021.

Smith has worked with various boards in the county to ensure growth continues and plans are made for future growth.

“I think the Lillian Hudspeth hospital is the best thing this county has going for it and I am excited to be a part of planning for the future.”

With no further business to address the meeting was adjourned. Mark Edwards, Board President, Noemi Samaniego, Vice President and members Sharon Holman, John Henry Stauch, Edward Earwood, Irene Dominquez and Mary Humphrey were all in attendance.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Trustees will be on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 6 p.m. at the LMH Wellness Center in the multipurpose room.
