The mixed doubles team of Lane Taylor and Joselyn Rodriguez won 2nd place at the Region 1 Tennis Tournament in Abilene qualifying them for the State Tournament.

Lane and Joselyn were the #4 seed entering the tournament. They started the tournament off by defeating Garcia and Martinez from Brownfield 6-3, 7-6.
In the second round, they defeated Miller and Elliot from Peaster by the score of 6-1, 6-1.

In the semifinals, Lane and Joselyn faced the #2 seed of Pullig and Wilde from Wall.

Lane and Joselyn defeated the Wall team 6-3, 6-3 setting up a rematch from district with the #1 seeded team from Reagan County. The team from Reagan County, Kuykendall and Darr, won a tough three set match 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. That forced Lane and Joselyn to have one more match to qualify for State.

The team faced off with Williams and McQueen From Brock in a play back match. Lane and Joselyn played really well and came away with a 6-3, 6-2 win to secure their trip to the State Tournament in San Antonio.

The mixed team will play at Annemarie Tennis Center in San Antonio around 9:15 on Tuesday, April 26th.

The Girls’ double’s team from Sonora of Abby Bennie and Montse De La Fuente came away in 4th place at Regional.

Abby and Montse easily defeated Garcia and Garcia from Alpine in the first round 6-0, 6-1.

They then faced Shields and Terrell from Shallowater. The team came away with a 6-0, 6-2 win.

Going into the semifinal match against Jameson and McCassland from Wall. The girls lost a tough match 6-4, 6-2.

In the 3rd place match, the girls lost to Delafuente and Mcbride from Brady. The girls finished in the top 16 in 3A in the state of Texas.
