The cross country teams competed in Mertzon on Wednesday, September 29th.

For some of the high school team this was the third meet in seven days. They are working hard to prepare for district and beyond, so they traveled to Lubbock for a regional course preview on Saturday.

This week all the boys ran in the JV division so that they could run the two mile race instead of the three mile race, and to give them a little bit of a break and get some speed work in. All six boys placed in the top 11, with five of them receiving an individual medal.

They easily won the division, and hopefully will have their legs ready to go for district in a week and a half. The varsity girls also ran the same three meets and were equally tired, but the girls didn’t have the option of running a shorter race.

They ran hard and finished sixth in their division. Montse De La Fuente led the JV girls with a tenth place finish to earn an individual medal.

The 7th grade girls continue their winning streak with a third team championship finish. They remain undefeated as a team for the season with only two races to go.

They were led by Kendall Thorp who has finished with a silver medal at all three meets so far. Grace Moore also earned her third medal of the season yesterday with an eighth place finish. Jimena Leija was right behind her with a ninth place medal and Andrea Rios captured an individual tenth place medal in the 8th grade girls division.

The seventh grade boys had four runners and earned four medals. They were one runner short to win the meet.

Jayden Welborn led the colts with a first place individual finish. Jayce Martinez finished 4th, Wyatt Killough 9th then Emory Jones 10th.

The 8th grade boys had only four runners, but ran all three meets. The leading 8th grade boy was Kody Prather. He finished in 14th place.

Come see these awesome runners compete in Sonora, Wednesday, October 6th. High school will start running at 9:30 am, with middle school starting at 4 pm, at the Sonora Golf Course.
