Sonora ISD administration and the Board of Trustees are in ongoing discussions in developing long term goals for the school district. The main focus has been facilities, safety, and transportation.

On Monday, November 20, 2023, the Sonora City Council convened for its regular monthly meeting, presided over by Mayor Juanita Gomez. Key members of the community, including Judge Jerry Kemp and Police Chief Pete Garcia, presented updates on various municipal matters.

For the second consecutive year, the Sonora Broncos 11-1, 4-1, defeated the Farwell Steers in the Area playoff round of 2A Div 1 football. The Bronco defense played lights out the majority of the game and keyed on Farwell’s rushing attack, which this season consisted of Corey Stancell and quarterback Jonathan Armstrong. The Broncos limited Stancell to 31 yards on six carries and one touchdown. Armstrong had to run for his life most of the second half of the game and gained 65 yards. Farewell, Farwell.

Sutton County Commissioners met Monday, October 30, 2023 to handle a light agenda. The meeting began with a public comment from former commissioner John Wade. He spoke on the countys possible purchase of the property.

United Parcel Service (UPS) announced recently that it is scaling back delivery and pickup service to some rural and remote communities. One of those is Sonora. Some residents may have been notified prior to this story that the company will reduce its pickup and delivery service to three days per week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Disaster Assessment Recovery, DAR, unit, along with state emergency preparedness officials, urge individuals to be mindful of increased traffic and resources leading up to and the day of the event.

The Sutton County Republican Women will meet Thursday, September 21st at noon. The meeting will be held at the Watering Hole located at the Sonora Golf Club (1612 Golf Course Road). Sutton County Republican Women is a part of the Texas Federation of Republican Women which provides the structure and support for women to influence policy, develop candidates, and elect leaders of Texas. Sutton County Women’s group is also a place to learn, share, and meet many dynamic speakers and friends.

The tenth ranked Sonora Broncos stayed undefeated with a 39-13 dominating victory over longtime rival Eldorado Friday night on the road at Larry Mitchel Stadium. The two schools first met in 1922. This 101st year of the rivalry really delivered. The Broncos poured on 570 yards of offense and scored 26 unanswered points when the heat of the day finally started to subside.

The 11th Annual Dry Devil’s River Music Flood is just little over week away, Saturday, September 23, 2023. This year’s event will be held in the grassy area at the Sutton County Park.

Sonora hosted their annual cross country meet on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Varsity girls and boys along with JV girls finished in first place. The JV boys finished in a close second.

It was an electric atmosphere at Bronco Stadium for the 2023 home opener between the 1-0 Coahoma Bulldogs and the 1-0 Sonora Broncos. Sonora fans, players and coaches alike had circled this game on the calendar after the Bulldogs upset the Broncos (10-3) 31-27 a year ago.

The Texas Rangers are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in Sonora, according to Texas DPS Sergeant Justin Baker, the department’s public information officer in San Angelo.
