Roberto Monrrial Zapata, entered into rest on Monday, January 16, 2023, peacefully at his home.
Roberto was born on June 20, 1930, to Tomas and Maria Zapata in Sonora, Texas. Mr. Zapata served in the Armed Forces from March 1951 to March 1953 and fought for his country in the Korean War.
He then returned to Sonora to work on ranches. He fulfilled his dream of ranching and ranched for many years in Sutton County. He was a master horseman and had a deep passion for the sport of Charreria and fine horses.
He created a legacy that will live forever through his son and grandchildren. We will forever miss his big smile and the soft tip of his hat when he would see you around town. He will deeply be missed by so many.
Roberto is preceded in death by his parents, Tomas and Maria, his sisters Maria Refugia (Cuca), Josefa (Fita) and Gloria.
He is survived by his son Robert (Elizabeth) Zapata, daughters Monica (Ricky) Samaniego and Debra (Ernest) Espinoza; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, his brother Tomas Zapata, Jr., sisters Imelda Castillo and Amada Ramos.
A Memorial service will be held to celebrate his life on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at the Sonora Depot.
