Ralph Michael Freed, also known as Mike, age 61 passed away peacefully on December 29, 2023 in Del Rio, Texas. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the John and Mildred Cauthorn Depot in Sonora.
He was born on November 28, 1962 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Mike, a generous and impartial individual, lived a carefree life, cherishing every moment to the fullest.
Mike was a beloved husband to Rita Freed, and a caring stepfather to Hilario Ramoz, Aleasha Smith, and Hope James. He is also survived by his sisters Karen Breaux and Ginger Davis, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Garett Ramoz, Octavia Ramoz, Raven Ramoz, and Bentley Garcia.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Ralph Duane Freed, his mother Eleanor May Pipkin Freed, and his sister Allison Garton. He will be deeply missed by his numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
After graduating from Tucumcari High School, Mike proudly served in the United States Navy from December 1980 to December 1986. During his time in the Navy he developed a strong sense of self discipline and dedication to his fellow servicemen.
Following his military service, Mike embarked on a successful career as a conductor for Union Pacific and Harbor Rail Service. He was known for his professionalism and commitment to his work. In his free time, Mike enjoyed pursuing his hobbies, which included fishing, woodworking, exploring the outdoors, attending music festivals, and traveling.
These activities brought him great joy and allowed him to create cherished memories with his loved ones.
