Alfred Sykes of Sonora passed into the arms of his Savior on Saturday, March 1st, 2025.

Alfred was born to Jewel and Wesley Sykes on September 22, 1941. He married Barbara Stapp of Junction in 1966. They went on to raise 3 sons: Jack, Blayze, and Shiloh Sykes. Alfred worked many years in the oilfield and ranching, while raising his family in Sutton County.

He is remembered affectionately by his family for his love of life, lifelong faith, cheerfulness in all weathers, and for his smile that lights up a room. Alfred was fiercely proud and protective of his family, can’t was never a word in his vocabulary, and he was independent, always. He enjoyed taking his family on adventures and loved life on the ranch working with livestock. His greatest joy was taking every opportunity to connect with his sons and grandchildren.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents Jewel and Wesley “Doc” Sykes, twin brother Albert, and sister Janis Boucher. He is survived by wife, Barbara, and sons: Jack Sykes of Sonora, Blayze (Amy) Sykes of Sonora, and Shiloh Sykes of Fredericksburg. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Paige (Chase) Davis, Alexa (Harry) Morin, Bailey Sykes, Jacklyn Sykes, Blayze Sykes, Kenzie Sykes, Grayson Sykes, and Stetson Sykes. In addition, he is survived by three great-grandchildren: Benny Morin, Wes Davis, and Teddy Morin. Alfred is also survived by his brother Jack Martin (Brenda) Sykes of San Angelo, brother-in-law George Boucher of Utah, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Cedar Hill Church of Christ (Roosevelt) on Saturday, March 15th at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cedar Hill Church of Christ.
