The Sonora Broncos boys cross-country team capped off a memorable 2025 season with a 10th-place finish at the UIL Class 2A State Cross Country Championships held Saturday, November 1, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The race featured 152 runners representing 16 of the best teams in Class 2A and the Broncos proved once again that they belong among the state’s elite.

After a one hour fifteen minute thunderstorm delay, the Broncos entered the James Bird Stadium in all white uniforms (iced out) and came away with a victory against the Reagan County Owls last Friday night. The Owls are having a down year with a 2-6 record after last year’s 9-2 District Championship season. All Sonora football teams defeated their Owl counterparts on Thursday and Friday.

The Sonora Broncos cross country team turned in a strong performance Tuesday, October 21st, finishing second overall at the UIL Region I-2A Cross Country Championships held at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

The Broncos played host to their I-10 westbound rival, the Ozona Lions last Friday night. The Lions won the toss and elected to receive the ball.

The Sonora Broncos and Lady Broncos dominated the competition at the 2025 UIL 2A District 7 Cross Country Meet, held Wednesday, October 8, at the Sonora Golf Course.

Last Friday night, the Forsan Buffs (1-4) hosted the Broncos for their Homecoming hoping to turn their season around. That didn’t happen. The Buffaloes passed for 86 yards and rushed for 99 yards. This was only slightly better than the 2024 game. Forsan only got into the end zone - the one that would give them points – one time. Sacks, fumbles, pass deflections and interceptions were the name of the game for the Buffs. The Bronco defense had a feast.

The Sonora Golf Club was buzzing with energy on Wednesday, October 2nd, as middle school runners from across District 7-2A gathered for the annual district meet. Schools represented included Eldorado, Sonora, Ozona, Big Lake, Forsan, Sterling City and Christoval, all competing under clear skies on a hilly course that tested every stride.

The Sonora Broncos brought their 3-1 non-district record back home after two consecutive road trip victories.

This was not the Alpine Bucks varsity football team that the Sonora Broncos have faced in the past. Granted, the Broncos defeated the Bucks by a wide margin last year, this Alpine team with only 22 players on the roster, played the Broncos tough last Friday night despite injuries before and during this game.

The Broncos traveled to Larry Mitchel Stadium last Friday night to play 2A Div 2 Eldorado for the 85th time.

The Broncos hoped to avenge their 36-35 loss last September to Johnson City but came up short last Friday night.

Both the boys and girls teams competed in the District 7 2A golf tournament over the last two Mondays. After the final round on Monday, March 31, 2025, both teams were awarded district championship trophies.

The Sonora Bronco tennis team competed in Abilene on March 7th and 8th. The team was awarded the number three seed and played Normangee in the first round.

Last week Sonora hosted the Colt Relays on Friday, February 28, 2025 and the Bronco Relays on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
