It was Harper’s Homecoming and Frontier Days in the Hill Country city. The Sonora Broncos have been there before for the same events. In 2014, the Broncos traveled to Harper and defeated the Longhorns 36-7, scoring all the necessary points in the first half under amber colored stadium lights.

The Broncos continued to roll in the Homecoming game versus the 3A D2 Alpine Bucks with a 45-18 victory last Friday night. Senior Edgar Deluna, who plays both ways, led the team with 20 tackles, 234 yards of rushing, and had a sack. Deluna had another four touchdown game including a thrilling 94 yarder. Deluna is in the top five Region 1 Total Touchdown Stat Leaders of all divisions with 15.

The tenth ranked Sonora Broncos stayed undefeated with a 39-13 dominating victory over longtime rival Eldorado Friday night on the road at Larry Mitchel Stadium. The two schools first met in 1922. This 101st year of the rivalry really delivered. The Broncos poured on 570 yards of offense and scored 26 unanswered points when the heat of the day finally started to subside.

It was an electric atmosphere at Bronco Stadium for the 2023 home opener between the 1-0 Coahoma Bulldogs and the 1-0 Sonora Broncos. Sonora fans, players and coaches alike had circled this game on the calendar after the Bulldogs upset the Broncos (10-3) 31-27 a year ago.

It was another electric atmosphere in the longtime rivalry matchup between the Ballinger Bearcats (3A D2) and the Sonora Broncos (2A D1). Ballinger fans packed their stands and lined the fences only to witness their Bearcats get overpowered by Sonora 46-12.

The Texas Water Safari, known as the "World's Toughest Canoe Race," consists of a series of events, including an informational seminar, two short races, and the main 260-mile race from the headwaters of the San Marcos River to Seadrift.

The boys' golf team from Sonora demonstrated their athletic prowess in the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) 2A State Championship. Held on May 22-23 at the historic Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin, this event brought together top golfers from across the state.

Bronco and Lady Bronco track finalist traveled to Canyon last week in hopes of staying in the race to State. Unfortunately the Lady Bronco season comes to an end while the boys 4x400 team will compete at the next level. The following was submitted by Coaches Tiffany Weston and Eddie Favila.

Lady Bronco Golf Team is State bound. The team of Annika Galindo, Madison Galindo, Rylie Thorp, Koda Davis, and Jolene Pasillas traveled to Canyon on April 17th and 18th to compete in the Texas 2A Region 1 Golf Tournament.

Sonora’s Edgar DeLuna was named this week to the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association’s 2A All-State football team.

The Sonora Broncos varsity football team had their 2022 season come to a conclusion on Saturday night in San Angelo. The final score in the Region 1-2A Division 1 playoff game against the now 13-0 Hawley Bearcats was 57-26.

For the third consecutive week, Sonora’s opponent was picked to be the winner. Last week the Farwell Steers were picked as three to six point favorites. Even the Farwell coach stated that his Steers would advance to the next round. After the football game at Big Spring’s Memorial Stadium, they went to the local Whataburger licking their wounds and shaking their heads. All the Bronco offense had to do was score three touchdowns and the aggressive, swarming defense took care of the rest.
